With 8 traditional sizes available in the Old Minster range, layout patterns are limited only by your imagination. Old Minster is based on a 150mm (6") module, enabling the ever-popular random patterns (shown below) to be laid quickly and simply. You can use these templates to work out how many of each size you'll require to complete your project.

How to....

The patterns shown are available for FREE download as GIF files - the two files are scaled to print out, in full colour, on sheets of A4 size paper. Use them to aid your design, and keep them with you while laying the paving - we're sure you'll find them useful. The download link is at the foot of the page.

Random The diagram opposite is taken from the downloadable A4-sized drawing, and shows a good sized patio area paved with flagstones from the Old Minster range.
It illustrates the 2 basic rules of random layouts......
a) Never have four corners meeting
b) Never have any straight joint 'run' for more than about 10-12 feet.

Use this key to follow the colour coding we've used for the diagrams and downloads. All 8 sizes in the range have a unique colour code, which, combined with their size and shape, makes design and laying from a plan so much easier to do. Key

When it comes to paths, the exciting range of sizes available allow your path to be unique. Whatever the width, it's so easy to create great looking paths with the Old Minster range - even variable width paths, for that 'Country Cottage' look.

900mm wide path
Two common widths for residential paths, 600mm (2') and 900mm (3').
1200mm wide path
1500mm wide path
For busier paths, where access is important, consider making your path just that bit wider than usual. Here's two path layouts, 1200mm (4') wide and 1500mm (5') wide.
1800mm wide path
When does a path become a patio? At 1800mm (6') wide, this layout is a perfect setting for a garden bench - plenty of room to stretch the legs and still allow other folk to pass by.
